Ron Reed Field

Ron Reed Field In LaPorte, Indiana

Last fall when I was back in LaPorte I made these photos of Ron Reed Field. I was mourning my father and making a photo across the street. I saw this baseball field, and it immediately made me think of him. Baseball was our language. It was the way that we communicated when we didn’t know what to say. As a kid we would talk about Ron Reed the local kid from LaPorte that made it all the way to the big leagues. He even played for the White Sox. This field was named in his honor, and the kids in the local Babe Ruth League get to play on this field. A ball field always feels like home, but being back in home and thinking about dad being at a ballpark just felt right. Today should be my first baseball game of the year. When this post goes live I should be packed up and ready to head to the park. I can’t wait to get there. It will be weird to not talk about the game with dad when it is over. He will be there with me though.

Baseball Week

This week is sort of a celebration. I will photograph my first baseball game this week hopefully. By the time this post goes live hopefully I will be planning for that game. I like the idea of making a big deal out of this week. It has been far too long for me seeing any kind of baseball.
