Ready For Baseball

Ready For Some Baseball

I made this photo sometime in the past. The date on the photo says that it was made on August 9th in 2009. At first I thought that it was wrong because the Cubs were playing in Colorado that day. Just for fun I searched the stadium on that date and it helped me remember that I saw a minor league game in Wrigley once. Of course we can make the joke about all of the games in Wrigley being minor league games, but being a White Sox fan I can’t say anything after whatever we saw last season. The Iowa Cubs were playing the Las Vegas 51’s. That was a big deal at the time because the I-Cubs never played close to Chicago because of the way that the minors were set up at the time. Now they come fairly close every year so that Cubs fans can see the rising stars more often. After not photographing a lot of baseball last year I am ready to get out there and see some this year.

Learning From An Old Photo

I had a good laugh looking at the settings of this photo. I was photographing action at 1/200th of a second at f/11. Back then I used sports mode on my old Canon Rebel. Some days I would get good results, and others I would not. It was about two years later when I really started getting into photography and learning why that was. With what I know now it is funny that I would have ever done this, but back then it is what I knew.

A Hard Year

This year will be a hard one for me at baseball games. Nobody liked baseball more than my dad. Most of what we talked about over the years was baseball. When I made baseball photos he was the first to comment on them. His last year on this planet he saw his favorite team have the worst record ever. The day that he died the Sox hired a new manager and I never got to get his view of the hire. Hopefully the White Sox turn things around and I can have some tears of joy and pain watching the Sox win it all. This week will be my first baseball game of the year if all goes well. It will be hard to be at the game and not think about dad. I may wear his Sox hat to the game and kind of take him with me.
