My Favorite Soccer Photos Of 2024
This was a weird soccer year for me. I only saw one Purdue match. I didn’t get to nearly as many high school games as I have in years past. Soccer was a sport that didn’t know until a few years ago. It has been fun learning to cover it, and to keep getting better with how I cover it.
I went out to Folk Field to see the final game of the year kind of just to keep my streak going. I had an idea for a photo during the good light of the day, but I had no idea that I would luck into a celebration photo at the same time.
Some great blue hour light here as the West Side player brings the ball up the field.
When you score the game winning goal the celebration is pretty good. Here I lucked out that it came in my direction. This was still early in the season, but it would be my final Harrison boys game of the year. It was a fun one to end on.
When the light is good you are always hoping for a goal celebration. Here I lucked into one.
This is a fun photo. You have the battle for the ball right at the goal. I love how you can see the sweat coming off of each player. Soccer is a taxing sport, and it always amazes me what these athletes can do on the pitch.
Some great light coming into the West Lafayette pregame huddle.
I went to Folk Field this spring to see Lexi Fraley come back home as she played for Ball State. At Harrison she was amazing to watch play. She would transfer to Purdue, and it a weird twist of fate I never really photographed her in a Purdue uniform.
One great thing later in the season is that the light stays good for just a little longer during games. You get a nice low light that makes everything look better.
Another photo from after the Harrison win against Crown Point. It was a battle, and they players had some fun after the big win.
I love this photo of two sisters celebrating after a big win. These are the fun moments to capture. The game action stuff is okay, but these are the photos that stick with you.
The Harrison girls team asked me to come out for senior night, and they put on a show winning the game.
Sometimes you spend a lot of time hoping that a player will run into the good light. That doesn’t always happen. Here the West Side goalkeeper comes right into the great light at the perfect time.
Folk Field is one of my favorite fields to photograph at Purdue. It is positioned perfectly for sunset photos. Just after sunset I ran up to the top of the stadium to make this photo. Once I had one that I liked I ran back down to the field to make the photo that leads off this post.
This list was probably always going to not be as good as last years. I had some photos that I really liked as the Harrison girls went on a sectional run last year. Those were really fun, and hard to top. This coming year I need to find a place or an outlet for more soccer photos.
