The Strolling Professor In Carmel
Friday morning my wife and I were in Carmel and of course we had to make a quick stop at the Carnegie Library in town. The library has now become a restaurant. We didn’t have time to stop and eat, but it would be an interesting meal for someone who has spent the last year finding these little gems. This statue in front of the library really caught my attention. Was it someone who was key to making this library what it is? I looked up the sculpture by J Seward Johnson and found something surprising. This is actually a sculpture of William R. Johnston who was a professor at NC State. I know that a sculpture just like this existed at NC State at one time, but I am not sure if this the same one or a copy. J. Seward Johnson led an interesting life, but that might be a story for another post.
More Carnegie Libraries
This year a fun little side quest for me on road trips has been finding Carnegie Libraries. They all have a good story, and they are little bits of history. This coming year I would love to keep this going. There are so many more libraries to find and photograph. They are a fun stop in many small towns. On this last day of the year I thought that a Carnegie Library was a good post to close things out on.
