Jimmy Carter: An Amazing Life

The Amazing Life Of Jimmy Carter

In the past I would always add a visit to some sort of presidential site to my sports trips. I was always fascinated with how our Presidents came to be. Stories like the one of Harry Truman and his unlikely rise to power were awesome to me. No story may be better though than that of Jimmy Carter. He grew up in a house with dirt floors and an outhouse out back. He then made the unlikely run all the way to become the 39th President of the United States. After his time in office he might have done his best work. He kept on trying to help people at a time when most Presidents are thinking about the most lucrative speaking engagements. He never forgot his calling to help, and that is what makes him so interesting to me. His passing is by no means a surprise, but it is still sad.

An Amazing Trip

This photo was made on a fun trip south to see Purdue play in a bowl game just over 18 years ago. Purdue was trounced by future Big Ten foe Maryland in that game, but the trip was so much more because of the stops along the way. On the way down I walked in the footsteps of Martin Luther King Jr and Jimmy Carter. I toured the Andersonville camp. I had a great day at NASA. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
