My Favorite Baseball Photos Of 2024
This was a crazy year for baseball for me. Each year I always try and photograph more than I have the year before. This year it seems like everything was getting in the way when I wanted to get to a game. I got to a lot of games through March, but things quickly went down from there. Baseball is one of my favorite sports to photograph, and next year I need to find a way to get to more games. In the past couple of years I have made this post way too long. My goal this year was to pick a few highlights from the year to showcase. Below are some of my favorite photos from this past year.
We will start off with some emotion from Purdue baseball. This year the team was in the hunt for the Big Ten Championship for most of the season. They were having fun playing some good baseball. The big games led to some big emotion from the players. Above are a couple of my favorite emotion photos from this past year.
This photo was part of a fun day. I started the day at Loeb Stadium watching a really good game between McCutcheon and Logansport. McCutcheon won to claim their first sectional title in a while. The team and the fans were super pumped and the celebration was great.
This photo was a lot of luck all coming together. The player hit a double and had this great celebration. The fact that the billboard behind him had the same color scheme just added to the photo for me.
After photographing the sectional game at Loeb I went to Central Catholic that night for another sectional title game. Central Catholic does not get as excited for a sectional trophy so those photos were not very good. I did like they silhouette photo though from the game. The late day light and the ball in the frame was fun to try and frame up.
This year I only covered one Aviator game. For five years I did a lot of photos for the team, but it just didn’t work out this year. This was one of my favorite photos from the one game that I attended this year.
For years I had fun watching Jack Shaeffer play baseball. This year I walked over from softball to see him pitch against Central Catholic. I love those old school road uniforms for West Side, and the late day light looked really good.
For a while now I have been waiting for a good sunset at Alexander Field. It just seems like it never works out on gameday. A lot has to go right to get that great sky. This year I had a couple of nights were the clouds were amazing. These are some of my favorite photos from those nights.
In 2012 I was lucky enough to be on the field as Purdue celebrated their Big Ten title. It took twelve years for me to get to photograph the trophy again. I love making these photos, but I would love it even more if it was Purdue hoisting the trophy.
Sometimes you make fun photos when you are bored. I was just kind of hanging out at this point of the game waiting for Illinois to clinch. I decided to have some fun with slow shutter speeds. I really liked how this photo turned out.
I was having some fun with the sun on this night when I made this photo. It is a different photo of Alexander Field for me. I have been making photos here for over ten years now so any kind of a different photo is a good photo.
Purdue plays an aggressive form of baseball that just makes for good photos. Here is a close play at the plate early in the season.
There are my favorite baseball photos from this past year. As I sit and watch the World Series I can’t help but think that baseball season is almost over. I can’t wait for some warm spring days on the baseball field next year.
