West Lafayette Football Wins Their First Sectional Game
Friday night I was back at Gordon Straley Field to see West Side play their first sectional game. It is crazy to think about the fact that football season is winding down. You only have so many chances to make football photos so I wasn’t going to let a beautiful Friday night go by without making some. This was a fun game to cover because the home team was in the drivers seat from the get go. A running clock in the second half made sure that we were all home early. That is the perfect kind of football night.
Taking Advantage Of The Light
As the sun was going down I moved into the end zone to try and get the players up against the great light. I wasn’t worried about missing a play or two because the team has a photographer or two that can get those. I was selling out on a play agains the light. I was rewarded for my gamble when a long running play came right at me. It was some great light, that made a good moment even better.
Trying Some Things
During pregame and even during the game I was trying some things out. Like I said above the team has a photographer so my photos are just kind of a bonus. I could try some things out without worrying about failing. When you are a sports photographer you already kind of have to give yourself permission to fail. When you do that you can take some risks which usually lead to fun photos. Here I had the camera on the ground, and there was a real possibility that I wouldn’t be able to follow the play. The low angle though made for a really cool photos with the sunset light in the background.
Bonus Photos
Below are a few bonus photos from the game.
