Sunlight On The Murdock Building

The Light Coming Over The Murdock Building

While out on a walk in downtown Lafayette I saw the light hitting the old Journal and Courier building in a way that I knew I could have some fun with the old Murdock building. If I stood in the right spot I could make the photo that you see above. Of course the right spot was in the middle of Ferry Street, but luckily for me nobody came speeding through.

The History Of The Murdock Building

Last year I had the idea of learning about a building a week with a photo. I stopped doing it because it started to be work. I wanted to learn when I wanted to learn, and not on a schedule. This is one building that I learned about on my own time. At one time this building was the home to the biggest competitor to Nabisco when it came to crackers. After they left it was remodeled around the turn of the 20th century and became what we see today. Those windows that peek into the frame are part of the dance studio that was on the third floor of the building. I love the old, detailed look of this building. It has actually inspired me to start a project that will show up on the blog in the future.
