A Rainy Day In Lafayette
A while back after eating dinner in Lafayette I ran across the street to make this photo of a couple walking through the rain under the famous Lafayette Theater marquee. I liked the small reflection of the building in the street, and I just wanted a colorful umbrella to come by. That did not happen. When I was editing this photo afterwards I realized that the color in the photo was not adding to anything so I made it a black and white. I like it much more this way.
When To Convert To Black And White
When I first started photography I never made black and white photos. At some point though I saw something somewhere that talked about converting to black and white when the color was not adding to the photo. The old masters would have said to always make a black and white image, but I still like my color. In a photo like this one the majority of the photo is very monotone anyway so the black and white conversion makes sense.
