Progress At The Site Of The Dunn & Hargitt Building

Yesterday while on a photowalk in Lafayette I watched some of the demolition of the Dunn & Hargitt Building Downtown. The Dunn & Hargitt building has been around since the mid 1800’s when it was erected by John Purdue. At the time it was the largest brick building west of New York City. Now it is a pile of rubble to be moved away. Soon this block will be apartments rising high into the sky. Progress is coming.

Photographing Change

With a campus like Purdue around I am used to photographing change. Campus is an evolving thing. This block here has a special connection to campus as it was built by John Purdue himself. I thought that it would be interesting to make a few photos during the demolition and then later to synch them up with the new building going up. As I was up on the parking garage making the photos I couldn’t help but notice that you can’t see the clock tower from up there anymore. When I started this blog that was part of the view. The new apartments that have gone up on the other side of the river have made sure that the view has changed.
