Universal Power By Rabi Towing
Because of the late night projections I might have spent more time with Rabi Towing over the week and a half than any of the other artists. He had a huge mural on the side of the Food Finders Warehouse in Lafayette. With each mural I learned something from the artist. Rabi really had a vision for his wall that made it unlike anything else that was being done. The different pieces on the wall each looked different. It is a unique style for sure.
Projecting With Rabi
On the first day that I met the artists I kept hearing that Rabi would be projecting that night. My first thought was that he must like to screen old silent movies late at night. I knew nothing about painting murals so everything was new to me at the time. Over the course of the week and a half that Rabi was here I watched him project twice. It was a fun process to watch where late at night you put your work onto the wall with a projector. With a quick turnaround to paint such a huge wall it saves a lot of time to be able to have your work outlined on the wall. When I was trying to come up with new photos it allowed me to make photos unlike anything else that I made during the week. This might have been my favorite part of the process.
Raine Leaves Her Mark
The fun part about this wall was that Rabi came into it with a clear vision. He had his design finalized, and I don’t think that he strayed from that much at all. One fun way that it changed was that he let Raine the neighbor across the street add to the wall. She will see it everyday so it was awesome that she was able to add to it. Another fun thing about this wall is that my oldest had sent a photo of this painting to me a few months ago while shopping in Lafayette. She really liked it, and now it will be a part of this mural as long as it stands.
