Seeing Two Plays In One Day
Usually in the summer when I talk about a doubleheader it has something to do with baseball. On Saturday though it was two plays in town. Last week I spent some time on the blog showing a lot of local art in the murals all around. I talked about how lucky we are to have art all around us. With two youth plays in one day that kind of emphasizes that point. It is amazing how many talented youth we have in our area to support two shows in a day. Both of these performances were part of camps where the players only had around three weeks to get ready for the show. It is amazing what they were able to do in that short amount of time. I made the photo above as the sun was setting during the performance of The Descendants by The Civic Theatre Of Greater Lafayette. It was a fun way to end our day in a pretty cool setting. What made it even cooler is the fact that my little one helped make some of the props that were used on stage.
A Cool Opportunity
As a photographer I sit in the crowd at shows looking at the lights and costumes and I have always wanted to photograph one of these. Back when I first started this crazy thing I used to be very jealous that my friend John Underwood would get to photograph the shows at Purdue. For some reason it just never had happened before. When I got the call to photograph the dress rehearsal for the Get Dramatic performance of Mamma Mia! I was all in. It was cool to finally get to try my hand at this thing. I think that I did okay for my first time photographing a play. I definitely learned a lot that I can try out if I get the opportunity again. I was finally able to sit back and watch the show when we went back to see it with the crowd. It was a fun opportunity to document this really great production. I am already looking ahead to find another show to photograph.
