Finally A Chance For Chumley’s
I have wanted to make a photo of Chumley’s in downtown Lafayette for a while now. I have been waiting for the area in front of it to be clear of cars, or at least interesting cars in front of the old bar. Saturday I was busy during the art fair that was downtown, but I made it just in time to see the vendors cleaning everything up. The area in front of Chumley’s was open so I was finally able to get my unobstructed view of this bar. That photo turned out to be very boring. As I walked back to the curb I saw that this photo could be possible and lined it up. This was my favorite photo from my photowalk. It was not expected, but kind of fun.
Documenting The Town
When I saw that this bar was closing I knew that I wanted to make some photos of what it looked like before it turns into something else. I didn’t visit it often, but there are some memories here. This is where we said goodbye to our photo friend Andy before he made his way to California. This was also part of my photo project in 2019 the night I hoped Purdue was end the Final Four curse. The better part of the last year I have made my normal photos, but also found ways to document the area where I live. Who knows what this will become? I am sure that I will photograph it when the change happens though.
