Catching Three Games Saturday Afternoon
Saturday was a unique opportunity on campus. I could watch parts of three games with very little travel. The Purdue football team held its spring game at Ross Ade. Any chance to be in Ross Ade is a good thing so I went down there. Following that I went to Folk Field to see Lexi Fraley who I covered in high school play for Ball State against Purdue. Finally I caught the first couple of innings of the Purdue baseball game against Michigan State. It was fun to get out and photograph a couple of sports that I haven’t in a while now. The way that time flies it won’t be long before it will be fall and I will be back on the football and soccer fields again.
The Purdue Spring Game
These kinds of events are always hard to cover. With a spring game there is no game flow to follow. It really is a practice game where things can change in a heartbeat. I photographed pregame from field level and then watched most of it from in the stands. It was nice to see some new faces on the team for the first time. It will be more fun to see them in the fall when the games are for real.
Seeing A Familiar Face
A few years ago during Harrison soccer matches there was one player that just seemed to have a different gear than the others. It was really fun watching those moments when Lexi Fraley decided to take over the game. When you cover high school sports it becomes very apparent when someone is going to play at the next level. Sometimes you are lucky enough to see someone that is going to be very good at the next level. Lexi is doing well at Ball State, and it was fun to get to photograph her on the soccer pitch again.
Purdue Baseball Takes On Michigan State
Friday night was some of the best light that I have seen at Alexander Field. I had a great time making photos that night so it made sense to head to the field again on Saturday. This game started much like the game the night before. Lead off man Mike Bolton was hit to start the game. Over the course of the weekend I read that he was hit seven times. That lead off hit by pitch led to a steal of second which become my favorite photo of the game. This Purdue team is rolling right now, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. I need to find a way to get to a couple of games this coming weekend.
