A Look Back At A Fun Walk
I made this photo nine years ago on a photowalk with Trey Ratcliff. When I first started really getting into photography Trey was a voice that really spoke to me. I loved his work, and I patterned everything after him. In fact this blog and its structure is modeled after what he did. I have not really strayed from that formula much over the years. This is a photo that I never published from back then. I was really into HDR at the time, and I thought that everything needed to be seen in a photo. Part of my growth over the years is realizing that sometimes your mind can fill in the blanks. Everything knows the shapes of the Chicago skyline. Leaving it in the dark can make the photo a little more interesting.
Back When The Old Stuff Was New
It is really fun going back through my photos all these years later. I look at that Canon 5D Mark III that made this photo and think of how proud I was when I finally picked one up. The 17-40mm lens that was on it here also made a ton of photos for me. It is always fun to find a couple of photos from back then and edit them with my eye now. It is also a great way to relive a fun trip to Chicago.
