Duquesne Faces Purdue In The WNIT

Back In Mackey For Some Basketball

I really thought that the Big Ten title clinching game for the Purdue men’s team was going to be my last game in Mackey this year. I had kind of thought that my basketball season was over. After posting last week about my first paid gig in Mackey ten years ago it was cool to have another one in there less than a week later. With the win Purdue has a chance to host again next week. I have been pretty dialed into the spring sports, but I would not mind one more chance at a game in Mackey.

Overusing The 300mm

I really am overusing my new lens. Part of that is the new toy aspect to it. The other part of it is that I spent $6,000 on a lens so I am going to use it. I really like how it brings you right into the action. It might be too tight most of the time, but man it is a fast, sharp lens that can change up my basketball photos a little. For a couple of years now I have been missing a tool to work with. It has bothered me that I didn’t have what I needed to make images. Now the kit is complete, and I am going to celebrate by using the 300 a little too much for a while.

A Familiar Spot

In the past my favorite spot in Mackey was off to the side. I would sit there even when baseline spots were open. For the last couple of years they have been off limits though. They are only for Purdue photographers which is not me. Photographing for the opponent though I can sit there so I took advantage of the situation to sit back there again. Every picture so far in this post was made from that spot in the quarter that I sat there.

Making The Most Of The New Things

When you photograph a sport for an entire season you start to feel like you just start repeating yourself. For something like this tournament the WNIT signage is something new that is not normally in Mackey. I tried to work it into my photos as much as I could last night. Here during the anthem it let to add something cool to the photo. There were two banners in view, but I used the reflection to give me four.

More Photos From The Night

I really had some fun last night. After my last game in Mackey I really dove into the ball and bat sports this spring. It was good to be back in Mackey making images. Below are a few bonus photos from the night.
