Getting A Few Extra Innings In At Alexander Field
Last night as the softball game was wrapping up I was keeping an eye on the baseball game next door. Through Twitter I knew that Purdue was down one entering the ninth innings. When I heard the train horn from baseball I knew that the Boilers had tied the game. I hoped that the softball game would wrap up in time for me to see the walk off next door. When I made it over to baseball the light was perfect for a tenth inning walk off. I had the photo planned in my mind. It would have been glorious. That didn’t happen though. Every inning Purdue was threatening to walk off the game and I kept getting into position to photograph it. That elusive hit that they needed just never came though. I was able to see the end of the longest game ever at Alexander though. On a night when I thought that I wouldn’t get to see any baseball I was able to get a few innings in.
An Emotional Time
Extra innings have a different feel to them. Every play is magnified. Big plays are even bigger. I was having fun watching these pitchers after they stranded a few runners. Here two of the senior pitchers come off the mound after getting out of some big jams. This really was an entertaining game to watch.
A Few More Photos From The Game
For most of the game I was chasing light and waiting for the walk off. I did have some fun trying to find a few ways to show off Alexander Field last night though. I had already photographed an entire softball game. You can see that gallery here. A few bonus photos from the extra inning portion of the baseball game are below as well.
