Purdue Women’s Basketball Defeats Rutgers

Purdue Starts The Big Ten Season 2-0 With A Win Over Rutgers

Last night Purdue survived a tight game to start their Big Ten season 2-0. It seemed like every time that Purdue would get a lead near ten Rutgers would storm back to make it a game. With the ball down one at the end Rutgers had a shot to steal a win. Luckily though that did not happen and Purdue stays undefeated on their home court this year.

Honoring Tim Newton

Last night Purdue honored Tim Newton twice. The first time was a stand and wave during a media timeout. Then at halftime they gave him a plaque to commemorate his 1,000th Purdue game on the radio. Over the years I have listened to Tim call a game on countless road trips. To me his voice is Purdue women’s basketball. I don’t think that he is a guy who seeks this kind of stuff out, but it is nice to see Purdue show him some love for all that he has done over the years.

A Good Gameplan

For this game I went in with a plan. For the first half I was using my 50mm lens as my main lens sitting under the basket. I had my 24mm lens on my second body as a floor remote. On a play like the one above I get two images to choose from. For the second half I sat farther out from the basket and I used my 135mm lens as my main lens with the 50mm to make some of the wider photos. I like this plan for a two camera setup because I have photos that look a little different from the game. Next week with Iowa coming to town I may go with a three camera setup for the big game.

Finding New Images

The new walk to the court that both the men’s and women’s teams have has given photographers all kinds of new photo possibilities. I have been having some fun this season finding new photos in the tunnel. There are all kinds of lights and reflections to play with. It will be a fun challenge to try and make something different for every game this year.

More Photos From The Game

This was my first game of 2024 so I wanted to come out strong. This team from the top down has fun out there on gameday. That really makes putting a gallery together easy. Hopefully they can keep the hot play going. The next home game is a big one with Caitlin Clark and Iowa coming to town. I would expect Mackey to be packed for that one making for an amazing atmosphere. I am already a little too excited for that one.
