Purdue Basketball Defeats Eastern Kentucky

Last night I was at my final Purdue basketball game of the year as they took care of Eastern Kentucky fairly easily. This was the last tune up before Big Ten play starts next week. This was a game where I felt like it wasn’t coming to me during the first half. I ended up making some photos that I liked during the second half of the game though.

Man Of The People

I am constantly impressed with how Zach Edey acts on and off the court. He is the defending national player of the year. He could be a jerk and just here to raise his draft stock. That is not Zach though. He stays after each game to make sure that each fan that wants his autograph gets one. Every fan that wants a selfie gets one too. I worked my way into position to make this photo. I love that Zach does this after every game, and I was happy to try and capture it last night.

Finding Saul Leiter

During the day Friday I was watching a couple of videos on Saul Leiter and his photography. I was planning some photos to make to emulate him in the future after watching the videos. As I was in the Purdue tunnel pregame I had an idea to try a Saul Leiter type photo. With the way that Saul loved reflections I don’t know how I didn’t find him sooner. This was my feeble attempt to recreate some of his work. If you are not familiar with Saul give him a look.

Dunk City

During the first half I didn’t see a dunk. With some photographers missing from press row on the other side of the court it let me grab a spot down there for the second half. This is probably the only time left this year where I could photograph Purdue for both halves of the game so I took advantage of it. I am glad that I did as Purdue put on a dunk show. Next week I will be covering both teams so it was fun to give Purdue my full attention last night. They went high flying for a few minutes to give me some good photos as well.
