Back At The Lafayette Sign At The Lafayette Depot
The other night I ordered food ready a little earlier than I would have so that I had an excuse to head to Lafayette during blue hour. With the rain coming down I knew that the bricks would be more reflective than normal. That was true as they had many stories about how they just constantly feel stepped on by others. They also really reflected the light very well. That allowed me to make a nice photo with the golds and blues that I like so much.
Taking What You Are Given
When I walked up to the depot there was a large family making portraits with parts of this sign. I had my 12-24mm lens to make a super wide photo of it, but that would have had other people in it. I came up with this composition that left them out of the frame, and of course it was much better than the photo that I had in mind when I was driving up here. Years ago I saw a video following Joel Sartore a National Geographic photographer. He talked about working a scene to find the photo. That has always stuck with me. My initial idea might have been good, but is there a better photo to be had?
