Photographing Wrestling Again
Wrestling is a sport that I don’t get to photograph much. I usually have one shot to photograph it during the winter. Last week I talked about putting in the work to get better at basketball photography. With wrestling I need to do something similar. Out of all of the sports that I cover it might be the most chaotic in a way. With almost every other sport you at least know a general direction where the action may be heading. With wrestling the best action of the match could be facing in any direction. There is a lot of chance to the sport. I usually elect to sit near the scoring pylon knowing that I will get a look or two as time is winding down. For this first match though I sat straight on to take advantage of the crowd in the background.
Loving The New Mat
At this point the wrestling mat might not be so new, but it is still new to me. I have only photographed a few matches on it. The muted colors look good to the spectators, and they play nice with my camera as well. The old mat was bright yellow which put a cast on everything that it was reflected onto. It was always hard to balance the colors in my photos. With this new mat it was very easy.
