An Infrared Cannon

A New Take On An Old Photo

Twelve years ago today I made a very similar photo to this trying out this new technique that I had learned called HDR. That magnificent day led to make many bad HDR photos over the course of my photo 365 project. I used HDR on clouds, pizza, dogs, and and Xbox controller in very short time. HDR was a cool tool once I learned to tone it down a little. My new favorite tool to overuse and hurt peoples eyes with is infrared. It is a fun way to take a very familiar subject and make it look very different. Here the leaves on the trees really go white in a very cool way. I had to make this photo a couple of months ago before the leaves started dying. I write this in August thinking that this spot needs to be on my list of places to visit as the leaves change this fall.

A Fun Ride

For this car ride I had three cameras with me. I had the infrared camera with the Tamron 28-200mm lens on it. I also had my Canon AE-1 with me with the 35mm lens on it trying to get the hang of that film thing a little. As I write this I realize that I don’t know how those photos came out, but you being in the future probably have seen them. Unless of course I totally blew it. In that case I never had the film camera with me on this day. I also had my Sony A7R3 with me to make some regular photos. It is fun to look at a scene and think of all of the ways that it could photograph well. Having some different options really opens you up, and allows you to really get creative.
