Photographing Football In A Monsoon

Photographing Football In The Rain

Last night I had other plans instead of photographing football. We were going to watch a movie at the baseball stadium downtown. When I saw the forecast though I knew that the movie was out, and that I would end up at this football game. I love to photograph football in the rain, and this was going to be a good rain. As the teams took the field it really was not raining very much. It didn’t take long though for the deluge to start. It would let up a little at times, but it just kept coming all game long. At some point even me and my crazy wish to make photos in the rain had seen enough of it.

A Quick Pregame Moment

Before the rain really started coming down I had a chance to get out the short glass and make this photo. I really like how it turned out with the blue skies above and the orange lights in the press box. I am glad that the skies let up enough for this photo to happen. It is one of my favorites of the year.

More Photos From The Game

Below are a few bonus photos from the game last night. For Friday nights as with the last few nights of soccer I had the old 400mm lens out again. It is a heavy old lens that does not always focus. Using manual focus is not the easiest thing to do, but on a night like last night it was worth it to make a few photos.
