Three Cameras At The West Lafayette Observatory

Three Cameras At The West Lafayette Observatory

A few weeks ago I took a few cameras to the West Lafayette observatory to make a few photos. I had this post and one other in mind as I drove over. This is such a unique building that we have right in our backyard. We have been inside the observatory a few times when the conditions are right to see some planets that we cannot normally see up close. As per usual I had three cameras with me to make the photos. The first was my Sony A7RIII with a 24-105mm lens on it. This is kind of my control setup as I know what it will produce. The second camera was my Canon AE-1 with a FD 35mm lens on it and Lomo 100 speed film in it. The third camera is my uncle’s old Sears TLS camera with a Pentax 35mm lens on it, and Kodak Ultramax inside of it. The photos are shown below in the order listed above.

Which One Do I Like The Best?

This is a crazy one for me to decided. I really like the first two fairly equally. If you asked me on a different day I might tell you that I like one or the other. The next day it could be the other one. The bottom photo is a little soft, and the clouds were moving so fast that I don’t have much blue sky in the frame. So far I would say that I was not a fan of Lomography film, but the Lomo 100 has changed my mind. I really like how it makes my photos just look a little different. I would take either of the top two, but I think that I like the second photo the best. I have had some issues with my Canon AE-1 and focusing it properly. Here things worked out pretty good, and I made a photo that I really liked. The Lomo 100 film in it doesn’t hurt things either. Which photo do you like best? I will have another one of these down the road from the exact same spot, but this time with three point and shoot cameras. I thought that it would be fun to try a couple of those out as well.
