Starting Down A Slippery Slope
This summer I have been having some fun experimenting a little with photography. I have been doing more infrared photography as well as finding some subjects that I wold not normally photograph. A lot of this started with me watching too many William Eggleston videos on YouTube. That then led to me finding some fun film photographers on YouTube as well. It was only a matter of time before I ended up with a film camera. As it turned out I sort of ended back up at Canon when I bought a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm lens. I have been having some fun trying it out around town as I made photos with my other cameras.
A Humbling Experience
I will say that when I got the text message that my photos were ready to see I was very excited, but also a little nervous. I have been operating under the assumption that I was either completely nailing it or failing miserably. As with most things it kind of fell in the middle. There were a couple of photos that I really loved, and some that for some reason it looks like I don’t know what I am doing with a camera. As I looked at one of the rolls I had the thought that I should have sent the rolls in under an alias. If it were easy though it wouldn’t be as much fun. I feel like I learned a few things, and hopefully the next rolls that I get back will have better results. On this first roll I immediately threw 12 of the photos aside and put 24 up onto my site. Out of the first three rolls of film this was the best percentage that I had. Once it got dark my failure rate jumped up dramatically. There is a lot to learn, and I think that I need to take it a little slower with the film camera. Here are some of the photos from that first roll of film.
