The Jaques Building In West Lafayette
You can walk by a building many times without ever realizing what is inside of it, or better yet what used to be inside of it. The Jaques Building in West Lafayette is one of those buildings. At one point in history this building had a drug store and a men’s clothing store on the street level. In the basement was a billiards hall that would later be called ‘The Hole’. Those windows above on the second floor housed a Catholic Church at this same time. If you think about everything that was happening from the basement to the second floor in this church at that time it is pretty amazing. Right now it hosts a printing store that has been there a while now, and a couple of storefronts that seem to change pretty frequently. Of course you have the Amused Clothing store that has spent some time in this building now.
A New Feature
When this blog started I had a Throwback Thursday that I did for a while. It was a fun way for me to share old photos that I made during my photo 365 project. It broke things up a bit. I thought that I would bring that back with a little twist. I would find an old building and look back on what it used to be. In some future cases it will be buildings that I know are scheduled to be torn down. It is a fun little way to preserve a little local history, and also for me to learn about my town. I have lived here for 12 years now on this second go around, and there is still so much that I don’t know. This is a fun way to get out and explore and learn a little bit.
