Having A Fun Photowalk On Campus
Saturday afternoon I went for a photowalk on campus with my friend Tom. I worked with Tom at Purdue Athletics and after college he moved to Kansas. As he was passing through the area he stopped by campus to catch up and go on a quick photowalk. I had the infrared camera with me for the midday light and to continue testing what I could do with the colors in post. I thought that this statue had a cool name for a walk between two friends who now live far apart. It is called Distant Paths by Preston Jackson. I chose to isolate this section of the statue and place it up against a nearby healthy tree. I had this edit in mind when I made the photo, and I am glad that it came pretty close to what I had in my mind when I saw this scene. It is always fun walking around with another photographer to see just what their eye catches. Tom is doing amazing things with his aviation photography. You can check out some of his work here.
Color Shifting
Last week I dove into a course teaching color shifting the channels of a photo to make your infrared images stand out more. It was a lot of material, but it really inspired me to get out and make some infrared photos. I spent a lot of the walk looking for subjects like the one above with a cool background. I also wanted to find some wider photos to see how those turned out. I am getting a handle on this thing, but it is still fun trying to play around and stretch what I can do with it.
