Blue Hour At The Strip Mall

The Neighborhood Strip Mall

Ever Since I moved back here in 2011 I have noticed this building. In fact before the pandemic I used to get my hair cut in this very strip mall. I have loved that stained glass accent on the end of the building, but never stopped to make a photo of it. Last week I drove down there twice to make photos of the building from this end. The glass has been broken on the other end, and after thinking about it for a little while I knew that I had to make photos from this angle before the stained glass is gone forever. The way that things change around here you never know when that will be. I am glad that I finally made it down here at a good time to make photos.

Getting Inspired

Last week I talked about watching Nick Carver videos and getting inspired. Those videos sent me down a rabbit hole of film photography YouTube. As I went out and made my photos last week I did so thinking about certain film styles that I would emulate in post. I really like how this photo turned out. You have the important things highlighted with the no aesthetic elements of the photo lost in the shadows. This summer my goal was to learn more and to try and become more creative. I don’t consider myself a very creative photographer. I am always trying to tap into that side of my brain a little more.
