Cul De Sac Fireworks

Lighting Up The Cul De Sac With Fireworks

This year I really had no plans to make photos of the big fireworks around the area. I had the thought of just making photos of the fireworks that we set off with our neighbors in the cul-de-sac. Of course on the 4th I changed my mind and photographed the fireworks over the campus of Purdue. You can see that photo here. I love that photography where you plan your position and make the photo happen. There is something cool about this kind of photography too though. I am just having some fun with the camera at home. The photos are not made that seriously, and I have a longer exposure time to allow me to be in on the action. They are still fun to make and share though.

Dusting Off The 12-24mm Lens

I have always loved my wide angle lenses. With my Canon I love the 17-40, and later the 11-24. One of my early Sony purchases was the 12-24mm lens. I still use it, but I find that it doesn’t make my bag as often as it used to. I have really started to love the primes so my walk around wide angle has my 24mm f/1.4 lens. As close as we were to these fireworks though I had to pull out the 12-24mm because I could not fit the entire burst into my frame. The photos below are a mix between my 24-105mm lens and my 12-24mm lens. It is good to get a lens out and use it every now and then. It still has its place in my bag, but I just haven’t done that type of photography in a while. Below are a few of my favorite photos from our neighborhood fireworks show.
