Covering Various Types of Racing

Summer is the time to try some new things. During the school year I am usually covering college sports. In the summer I like to get out and try racing. It is a totally different animal than I am used to covering, but that is what makes it fun. The people around the track are sometimes just as interesting as the racing itself. I made this photo last year at Winchester Speedway while some of the historic cars were on the track. This gentleman was really into the cars, and I loved his shirt. This weekend I will be covering the Day Before the 500 race in Indianapolis. It should be a day full of photos, and I can’t wait to get out to the track. As the weather warms up here in the Midwest the racing heats up as well. Over the next few weeks a lot of the larger racing series make their way to the Midwest. I plan on covering a decent amount of it over the course of the summer. Racing allows me to get more into story telling mode as there is a lot of dead time on the track. With that time you can make some very interesting photos.
