Photographing the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament
Last year was the year that I found soccer, and this year I found lacrosse. I had never even seen a match before my first one this past April. Lacrosse is a very fun sport to cover as it is very action oriented with a lot that you can do with it. My assignment was to document the day for the Towson Tigers. Towson had to win a play in game just to get to travel to South Bend. Their fans learned where they were headed Wednesday night, and they still organized a couple of charter buses to get them to South Bend. They were very passionate, and made it easy to get some crowd reactions. Towson was not expected to do much in the game. They did something for most of the game that not many gave them a chance to do. They led. They had a decent lead at one point, but the #1 seed Fighting Irish then stormed back to win the game 12-10. It was a great game though as Towson played with a lot of heart, and gave me a lot of great opportunities to make photos.
Decisions, Decisions
This was an interesting weekend. I had some pretty cool opportunities to shoot some things, and I had to decide which one to take. The Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the first round of the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament were both happening on the same day. I ended up choosing the lacrosse game in South Bend to be a bit closer to my hometown. That allowed me to see my mother before Mother’s Day while still covering the event. For most of the time that I knew that I would be shooting the lacrosse game the weather looked horrible. By the time that the game came though the weather was wonderful, and except for the very end it was a sunny, warm day. After looking through my photos I knew that I had made the correct choice. I have a couple of more weeks to shoot in Indy, and I may have some news about that coming in the next couple of days.
Bonus Photos
I have placed a few bonus photos below that I liked from the day. I have a full gallery up on my website here, or as usual you can click on any image to go directly to that one in my gallery.
