Purdue Wins Its Exhibition Opener 89-52
Early in the game yesterday it looked as if California (PA) would be tough for an exhibition opponent. The after a timeout Purdue came out and asserted its will on them en route to an easy win. Exhibition games can be exciting at the beginning for one reason. That is the fact that you are seeing the new faces for the first time. For a while now I have been reading the name Isaac Haas, P.J. Thompson, John Octeus, Jacquil Taylor, Dakota Mathias, and Vince Edwards for a while now. It was great to see them for the first time play alongside the players that we already know. The bad thing about an exhibition game though is the fact that it means nothing, and it gets out of hand. I stayed for about 3/4 of the game before heading home. I had done what I wanted to do, and staying would have just been staying for the purpose of staying. It was nice to beat the traffic for once.
Getting Back in the Groove
Anyone who tells you that they can just sit down after a few months off and shoot a sport without skipping a beat is lying. Sometimes though you can get back into the groove quickly. Sometimes it just takes one photo that you nail to give you the confidence, and then it starts to all fall together. It was the above photo that I liked that seemed to get me into the groove. I liked the sweat showing on the face, and the moment. From there I was ready to get going again. Now I am ready for basketball season. This season will see me focused more on the high school game as my nephew is a senior at West Side. That is my basketball priority. For now though it is nice to get tuned up at Mackey.
Playing With the 7D Mark II Again
The main reason that I went yesterday was to try out the 7D Mark II a bit indoors. I put it on my 300mm lens to start off to shoot down the court. I think that it was too much for most of the court. It did work well on the 300mm for getting a block on the other end of the court in portrait mode. I threw it on the 70-200mm lens to give that a try for about a half of play. It was tight, but I liked the way that I could see the detail a bit more. Other photographers could get the full body shots. I was trying something a bit more. I really think that this camera is a game changer. It is for me at least. In the next few days I will photograph seven soccer matches, a college football game, and possibly part of a swim meet. At the end of all of that I should have a better understanding of what I like and don’t like about the camera. Expect a long list of likes with a minimal list of things that I don’t like.
Bonus Photos
Once Again I will add some photos that I liked from the game yesterday. I tried to put some of the young kids in here because they are the new faces. Some old faces turn up as well.
