The Bowler in Action
Yesterday we spent a good portion of the day at the Feast of the Hunter’s Moon. We took the kids and of course I took my camera. Most of the photos that I made on the day were for the family, but I did sneak in a few for the blog. After spending a weekend away from sports I managed to find a way to get a little sports shooting in at the feast. In the back they had a cricket pitch set up. One man running it would round up a group of kids, and they would take turns hitting. The rest of the kids would of course field. I liked the way that the bowler looked with the crowd from another show in the background so I made a few photos. I tried to time it so that I could get the pitch without any people walking through the background. At an event like the Feast that can be a chore. I finally made this one without someone right behind him.
Almost Like Shooting Baseball
Cricket is a game that is very close to baseball. The story goes that Abner Doubleday tweaked the cricket game to become baseball. We all know now that Doubleday did not invent baseball, but the similarities in the two sports are very close. The next week will give me my final chances to shoot baseball. Purdue has its annual fall series that starts Thursday. It will be one last chance to get out and make a few photos of this sport that I love. With everything else going on it will at least be interesting to throw some baseball in the mix. Shooting baseball and football on back to back days is what I think would be heaven for this sports photographer. I get to do that this weekend.
Getting Away From Sports For a Weekend
This past weekend I had a couple of opportunities to shoot sports, but I did not. I was going to shoot some softball on Saturday, but the temperatures and field conditions cancelled the games. Starting Wednesday though this weekend promises to be filled. This will be a weekend that fills up storage space on my computer. As the fall sports enter the midpoint of their seasons the weather is starting to have a greater effect on the games. It tends to have an effect on the photographers as well. You really have to block everything else out but the action. If you are thinking about how cold you are then you are not thinking about the game. Hopefully we can spare that for at least one more weekend.
