The Summer Solstice
Today is the summer solstice. The word solstice in Latin can be translated to mean sun stand still. At the northern reaches of the planet today it may just seem like that is the case. Today’s photo was actually taken a couple of weeks ago as the sun set behind the city of Chicago as viewed from Northern Indiana. This is a special event that really looks great. The clouds moved out just enough to allow the sun to go behind the buildings, but they also stayed close enough to put on a show once the sun went down. This was the sunset that just kept giving. I have not gotten out to photograph as much this summer as I have in the past. When you have a sunset that gives like this one though it really makes up for all of the sunsets that I have missed.
Processing the Photo in Lightroom 5
This was a very easy photo to edit. With conditions that are slowly changing like this sunset was it was very easy to keep up with the change in light. I did use a preset in Lightroom 5 though. It was the Absolutely Fabulous preset by Trey Ratcliff. After applying the preset I adjusted the vignette, and performed a small crop. This was the extent of my editing here. A very quick and easy edit which it should be sometime.

Bonus Video
Here is a video that I made on the beach that night with my GoPro. I wanted to show off the colors in the sky, and the way that they reflected off of the water. This was just a point and shoot video.
