The Barn and the Windmills

In 2011 I had just purchased my Canon 60D, and I spent a lot of time trying to find subjects to make images of. My two favorite that year of course were the barns and windmills. This was a photo that I really enjoyed making, but it never made it on the website. Something was always missing from the photo, and I wondered if I could make it pop in Lightroom. This has been a theme for the last couple of weeks is to rework a photo on Thursday. This is kind of a new way to bring back the Throwback Thursday theme that I used to have. This photo was made before this blog was even thought of. After over 1,200 posts that is hard to imagine.

Technical Data

This was a photo that sat around for a while. While dumping some images off of my iPhone I came across it. I decided to run the photo through Lightroom to see what I could do to it. I applied the HDR Look preset to this image to begin the editing. I then cropped a little off of the bottom, and increased the saturation to get the result that I wanted. I rarely use the saturation slider, but on a jpeg it gets me the result that I want faster than the vibrance slider can. With a RAW image the saturation slider really can get to be too much very quickly. Here on the jpeg with less data to work with you can crank it a little.

    1. Thanks. With all of the windmills around here they just have become part of the landscape. I would love to see more of the old school windmills around though.
