Photo of the Day
Here is another photo that I took from the Dunes National Park in Chesterton, IN. The object of the trip was to photograph the sun setting behind the Chicago Skyline, but the sunset was so amazing that I decided to stay and keep shooting that as well. I tried a few angles, but the best one that I could come up with was down on the sand on the shore. This gave me a great reflection that gave me two sunsets. I wish that I had anticipated this stop as I could have brought my ND filter to slow the exposure down even more creating a smooth surface. I guess I will just have to do that next time.
Technical Data
For this photo I did not want to use any of the HDR presets that I normally use. I just wanted to massage the sliders to bring out the beauty in this photo. I caved on the original premise though, and I started off by using a Trey Ratcliff preset called Absolutely Fabulous for this photo. From there I tweaked the sliders to get the look that I wanted. The last thing that I did was to adjust the exposure a bit. The photo above is how I see the photo. It looks great on the computer to me. When it is not backlit though such as on a print it would be a little dark. I adjusted the exposure to compensate for this.
