Photo of the Day

Yesterday I went out to Norway Dam to make some photos with my Lee Big Stopper. I have been wanted a big stopper for some time now, but I wanted to wait until I could really use it to get one. I did not have much time so I found the first location that looked like it could work for me. The big stopper really can make water look fantastic. The Norway Dam is over 90 years old now, and it makes for an interesting photo. I think that I will come back again when I have the time, and hike to the bottom where the real picture probably is. What I liked about the top view was the fact that the power lines kind of lead you into the photo. That combined with the swirling water keeps you in the picture.

Technical Data

As I said above this photo was made using the Lee Big Stopper. The big stopper takes light away from the camera. Yes I am using an f/2.8 lens, and then trying to keep light from my sensor. Sometimes you have to have it all. The big stopper gives you ten stops of light which means that I can shoot a photo like the one above. I had my shutter open for 20 seconds during the middle of the day. That really allows for some interesting photos. This was my first try with the big stopper, but I am sure over the next couple of weeks you will see some more photos using it. Inside of Lightroom I made a very quick edit. I used the HDR Look black and white preset to start off. I then adjusted the exposure and the black slider to get the look that I wanted. I then used the brush tool to darken the lower left portion of the frame. It was a very quick edit that I made a video of. I will post that video below.
