Photo of the Day
Last night I covered the Purdue baseball game against UIC. It was a great game that saw a little drama at the end as well as a Purdue win. Early in the game I was concentrating on getting the shots that I needed, but then as the game goes on I can play around a little. This season I have been trying to get more of the outfielders making plays. With that in mind I have a little longer glass on than I normally would have. I put a 1.4x extender on my 300mm lens to make it about 420mm. That allows me a little longer reach for the outfield plays. I could just use my 6oD instead of the extender to get 1.6x with the crop factor, but I like the look of the images that the 5D Mark III gives me. There is something about the color that I really like. Sometimes I key on a player, and other times I have to find them quickly. On the ball hit above I had to find Kyle as he drifted back for the ball. Luckily the ball was in the air long enough for me to do it. Looking through the lens you can tell that the ball is almost there, and I hit the shutter twice. This is the result of that. I don’t think that this shot compares to the classic Willie Mays shot, but it might be as close as I can get to it. It really helps you appreciate the skill that it took to make that series of images with the equipment in use at the time.
