Just Out Of Reach

Photo of the Day

Last night I covered the opening game of the Purdue baseball series against the Michigan Wolverines. Once again I was able to see a great game that needed extras to finish it. This game went 12 innings with Michigan getting the decisive run. The article in the local paper today talked about how Purdue has lost many close conference games, and this was yet another one. Despite the dropping temperatures during the game I had some fun making some pictures again.

Bonus Photos

You can view my gallery from the game here on PurdueSports.com. I included a couple of other pictures below for fun. The first one is in the Purdue gallery, but I wanted to talk about it a bit. This is part of a three shot burst as the runner came home. I quickly moved my camera to make the picture of the play at the plate, but my focus did not grab the players right away. In fact this is the middle frame, and I think the best action of the series. It also was the only one in focus. Sometimes on a quick shot you need a little luck. The second photo is another try at a multi exposure. I have had some luck with Tim McElroy so I thought that I would try it again. I have some work to do here to make the image that I really want to make. The third photo is a quick portrait that I took of Purdue Pete on the field prior to the game.

Bonus Video

Last night I set up the Hero 3+ Black in the press box to try a time-lapse. This is the first game of the season that really would go form daylight to darkness so I wanted to see how the Go Pro would handle that. A few clouds would have been great for the sunset, but you can’t have everything. I set the Go Pro up to make a picture every 5 seconds. I thought that during a game like baseball that should be quick enough. I also set it up to record the 12mp file for this project. I have been making my time-lapse videos using 7mp files, but I thought that if one frame stood out I could have a bigger file. I don’t think that you will notice the difference in the 5mp’s during the video. Making the actual time lapse is fairly easy using the Go Pro Studio app. I just put all of my photos into one file, and import them into the app. It builds the video for me. From there I make any adjustments that I feel are necessary, and add some music to it. I would like to say that I choose each piece of music because it fits the video so well, but with limited time involved I using pick a royalty free song that is about the same length as my video. Anyway I hope you enjoy the video that is below.
