Calling Dr. Spengler

Photo of the Day

I had this post ready to go in June for the 40th anniversary of the movie Ghostbusters coming out. Yesterday I learned that one of the geniuses behind the movie passed away. Harold Ramis was 69 years old, but he accomplished quite a bit in those years. Many of the movies that he was a part of in some way were the movies that shaped my humor. Movies like Animal House, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters, Stripes, Groundhog Day, Club Paradise, Multiplicity, and Back to School just to name a few. He was part of the great group on SCTV as well. He was a comedic icon, and I thought that I should move this post up a bit in his honor. The memorabilia in the case that I featured was donated by Mr. Ramis. The items are from many of his movies that I love. If you grew up in the 80’s as I did you know his work. Some of it you may not even realize that you know. You have quoted his lines, and now the creator is gone. As I said before it is funny how a person can connect with you. The comedy of Harold Ramis from his time at SCTV to even a movie like Year One has shown me what comedy can be. I have always wanted to see a Ghostbusters 3. I think I now know what heaven will be. It will be a showing of Ghostbusters 3. Maybe I can watch it with Groucho and Stan.

Thirty years ago the movie Ghostbusters came out. This iconic movie really was one that I loved as a kid, and I still love today. Four comedic geniuses really came together to make something special. It is hard for me to believe that this movie is thirty years old. I guess time really does fly by.

I found this memorabilia at the Harry Caray’s restaurant at Navy Pier. It looks as if Harold Ramis donated a few of his Ghostbuster items to the chain. I took the picture in 2011, but the items really mean something today.
