Photo of the Day
The last few days have been interesting. The snow cancelled all of the events that I had planned to cover. After a few days without shooting anything I start to get twitchy. I decided to attend the Purdue swim meet against Michigan State to get some photos in. I had a couple of ideas of things to try during the meet. The first was to try and use the multi exposure feature of my 5D Mark III. I knew that the backgrounds would probably not allow it to work, but sometimes you have to at least try. The backgrounds did not work for me, and it was a failure. I also wanted to drag the shutter while the swimmers were in the water. My in water pictures had been looking the same so I decided to try something new. At 1/40th of a second the hit rate is not very good. When it did work though I thought that the end result was pretty good. This is a bit more than panning as the athlete is moving two ways at once. The effect that it gives is well worth the effort though. The water droplets in the air look great, and give me something else to shoot for the next time that I try it.
Technical Data
Most of what I did technically I stated above. I did put a filter on this photo though. I used the HDR in Lightroom preset by Matt Kloskowski to punch up the photo a bit. Sometimes on this blog I like to change things up a bit. For the wire I couldn’t make this photo look like this. For my own personal blog I can though.

Certainly can’t argue the merits of the shot – quite effective. Nice!
