Inspiring Images: Yousuf Karsh’s ‘Papa Bear’

Inspiring Image

This feature took a couple of weeks off during the holidays. That did not mean that I was not looking around for images that inspire me. This feature really has no timeline so I can sort of ‘catch up’ a bit here. I really do not do much portrait work. I think the use of light can make or break a picture here so I have been studying why I like a certain portrait over another. This one just stood out to me. Ernest Hemmingway is a larger than life figure anyway so a photographer that can make him more so is doing something right. I love the way that the light picks up all of the details here of this rugged man. Images like this really make me want to try more portraits.
