A Sea of Red

Photo(s) of the Day

Just like last week I thought that in addition to posting one photo that I liked from the game that I photographed I would also post a few more photos from the day that caught my eye. At the bottom of this post I will have a few bonus pictures. Saturday I was coming home from Martinsville, Indiana to see Purdue take on Notre Dame. A couple of days prior I realized that I could shoot a football game along the way. Wabash College was opening their season against Hanover College. The last couple of weeks I have been very spoiled by being able to be on the field. What I have found is that everyone involved is very nice. Being at two new colleges I really do not know about any of the gameday traditions. Where do the players come out? Do they do anything special? I have found that the fans and gameday staff alike are very helpful so that I can make the pictures that I need to make. Wabash had a great day scoring 62 points in the time that I was there. I had to leave a bit early to get back to West Lafayette, but I did see a large number of points put on the board.

During my time at the game I really fell in love with a couple of aspects. The first you can see in the picture above. The fans really come prepared, and if you position yourself in the right place you get an awesome background for your shots. I really tried to make this happen whenever I could. The other aspect of campus that I enjoyed was a clock tower on campus. It only shows up once below, but I spent a lot of time trying to frame subjects with the tower. There are certain things that really seem to help make a good picture on campus. Part of the fun of shooting somewhere new is finding the good backgrounds for your shots.

Technical Data

The beauty of editing a large batch of sports photos is that you don’t have to do much to them. I just go through and adjust the highlights, shadows, and in some cases the white balance on the images. It is a quick process that really is easy to do. If only my landscape pictures could always be that easy.

Bonus Pictures

Here are some other shots that I liked from the day. It was a beautiful day out, and as you can see below I really enjoyed a couple of aspects of the campus.

Here is a short video that I made before the game of a couple of the Wabash huddles
