School Pride

West Lafayette, IN August 30 during the Purdue Boilermakers vs. Northern Illinois Huskies women's soccer game at the Purdue Soccer Complex on August 30, 2013.

Photo of the Day

Friday when I pulled up to the soccer stadium I had a little time on my hands. I was sitting in my car reviewing some of the volleyball pictures on my iPad when I noticed the way that everything was lining up outside my car. The clouds were rolling in nicely, and if I moved over just a bit I could get the Purdue flag inline with the press box. As I made my way into the stadium I decided to try the shot I was thinking about earlier. I liked the way that it looked in the camera, and I was glad that I took some time in the car to notice my surroundings.

Technical Data

This photo was one were I wanted to use one preset and then call it a day. I was going to use a color HDR preset in Lightroom to bring out the detail in the RAW file, but for some reason I thought that it would come out better in black and white. I guess it may have been a class I watched this week on black and white talking at the time. I used a Matt Kloskowski preset called HDR in Lightroom black and white. This was a free preset from his site Lightroom Killer Tips which you can find on the sidebar. He has many presets that cover all sorts of pictures that you could take. When you start to get to know them the presets can get you very close to where you want to be with your photos.

Photo Mechanic

I have just started a trial of a program called Photo Mechanic. It is a very quick way for me to see my take of a sporting event. Every shot that you take is not a winner, and to find an easy way to help find the selects is a miracle. I used it for the first time this weekend at the volleyball and soccer games. It really helped me sort through my images quicker so that I could have time for other things. Being able to have my keywords and captions ready prior to the matches was also very nice. I have a few days left with the trial, and I will see what happens. This may just be a quick way to sort and title my pictures before they end up in Lightroom for editing and cataloging. Lightroom has just been too slow for me when loading up an event. I have to walk away and do something else while a big event is loading. It seems as if they could fix that issue they would have the ultimate program without the need for other programs like Photo Mechanic.
