The Choctaw Hotel

Photo of the Day

Here is another photo from 2006. In the span of a couple of weeks I saw many states in the southern part of the country driving to watch two football teams play. This picture was from the first trip that I made that year. The focus of the trip was to see Grand Valley State play in the Division II championship game in Florence, Alabama. A few pictures from that trip have already made this blog. After the game we went to Memphis where we stayed the night in order to see Graceland in the morning. That was a great time as well. The final stop was in Little Rock, Arkansas to see the Bill Clinton Presidential Library. Most of my sporting trips will involve a Presidential Library if possible. One basketball trip to Houston allowed me to see two of them. It doesn’t matter what party the President was in, I just like to see how they rose to power. Some have some pretty great stories. This old hotel is on the grounds of the Clinton Library. It was an interesting building that I saw just as the light was fading outside.

Technical Data

My camera was still pretty new to me when I took this shot. I was probably in shutter priority mode at this time, but I knew little of why things worked the way that they did. My shots from that time frame were very hit and miss. I might do some things differently now, but I still like this shot. I used an early preset that I downloaded called ‘the 300 look’ by Matt Kloskowski. It is a great preset that gives the picture a crazy look. For some reason I really liked what it did here. I wouldn’t normally have used it on a building, but the color of the building made it possible. That was the extent of my editing here. A very quick and easy job.
