A Look Back at Shea Stadium

Photo of the Day

The reason for our New York trip in 2008 was to see both Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium in their last seasons. Most people were more concerned about the ‘House that Ruth Built’ being torn down, but I had a few memories that took place in Shea Stadium as well. I really wanted a picture of the outside of this old stadium. A lot of people thought of it as a dump, but it was a stadium from an era past. As the All Star Game comes to Citi Field this week I couldn’t help but think of the park that is now a parking lot. I have not been to the new ballpark yet, but I hear it is very nice. It does not have the history of Shea though.

Technical Data

Before we went into the stadium I took this picture with my camera with the idea of making a panoramic out of it. In the end I didn’t think that it worked out that well. Being in automatic mode my camera couldn’t quite decide how to take the shot. I ended up with a few different exposures. As an exercise I decided to try and fuse some of those in Photomatix to see what would happen. I ended up with a shot that did not look too real. Here I wanted something that looked a bit older. I used a Trey Ratcliff preset in Lightroom called dramatic chippy to get close to what I wanted. A small exposure change was all that was needed along with a crop before sending the photo to SmugMug.
