Photo of the Day
While making some pictures during the two days of ARCA racing in Winchester a couple of weeks ago I came across a very familiar name. I watched part of the ARCA trucks drivers meeting prior to the first practice of the day. While I was walking away from the meeting I saw a familiar last name on the back of a shirt. The full name was Bobby Dale Earnhardt. When the driver turned around he looked very much like Dale Earnhardt Jr. with his reddish beard. I did a quick Google search on the driver to find out that he is the son of former NASCAR driver Kerry Earnhardt. That also means that he is Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s grandson, and Ralph Earnhardt’s great grandson. I had a prior engagement so I could not stay to watch the race that night, but it was nice to see another Earnhardt on the track. He already seems to have a nice following, and a few race wins should make that number grow exponentially.
Technical Data
I used the light sports preset on this image to get it close to where I needed to be. I tweaked the sliders a bit in order to get the look that I was going for. This is a shot that I enjoyed making. I was working on panning at lower and lower shutter speeds. This one was taken at 1/50th of a second. The general rule of thumb is that you shouldn’t handhold a picture under 1/60th. Panning does make that number a bit more arbitrary. I kept working my way down trying to see what I could capture. It was a fun exercise that the practice session allowed me to be able to do.
