Reflecting on the Weekend

Photo of the Day

This was a long weekend that was also a lot of fun. I covered the ARCA series race at Winchester Speedway both Saturday and Sunday. In between events at the track I also covered the Lafayette Brawlin’ Dolls bout here in Lafayette. Yesterday the race was in jeopardy because of a storm cell that was rotating right over the track. Things worked out great though as the rain quit in time to have everything move pretty close to the scheduled time. I walked over to my favorite spot from the practices to get a couple of pictures from there, and I was greeted with a fantastic sight. All of the rain from the day had pooled down by the base of the track. As the cars went by they left a perfect reflection of themselves in the water. For some reason none of the other photographers thought this was interesting. They were concerned with tight shots of the cars. I still have not even gone through all of my pictures from the weekend, but so far this is one of my favorites.

Technical Data

I really liked the look of the medium HDR preset by Matt Kloskowski in Lightroom 5. It really brought out the detail in the track as well as the cars. As with most sports pictures this was a very easy edit.

    1. There are some beautiful images that can be made from something as crude as auto racing. It was a blast to make photos of it and I highly recommend it.
