Reflections of Columbus

Photo of the Day

While in Columbus I had some fun trying some new things out with a couple of lenses. During one walk around town I was immersed in the arts. One of the many events happening that weekend was a celebration of the arts downtown. While many of the artists did not want any pictures taken of their work that didn’t mean that I couldn’t come up with a couple pictures from the bridge that the festival was on anyway. At one point I saw a gap in between two of the tents that the artists were selling from. In that gap was a nice view of the city. I was really trying to just use the new 24-70mm lens so I forced myself to compose this shot just using that lens. A horizontal shot was nice, but I had to cut off some of the reflections. I thought that they were interesting so I decided to keep them in. The shot above is the final result of my efforts.

Technical Data

This was an easy edit. I applied a few new presets just to see what they would do. In the end though I used the light sports preset, and I eliminated the vignette. I liked the way that it sharpened the buildings, and gave this a very crisp look. This was after running three exposures (-2, 0, +2) through Photomatix. I think that the HDR process really did not do much for the sky, but it did help with the buildings.
