All Quiet on the Wabash

Photo of the Day

Yesterday was a long day. It was a great one though that ended up in downtown Lafayette for the Taste of Tippecanoe. This is a great event that gives you a glimpse at what the area has to offer. We had a blast listening to various forms of entertainment. At the end of the night they put on a great fireworks show. While we waited for that to start though I made this picture from the pedestrian bridge looking out over the Wabash. Something about the colors during the blue hour appealed to me here. This is not the picture that I intended to make when I went to the Taste, but as I say a lot sometimes the one you like the best is the one that you didn’t expect to take.

Technical Data

Once again I found myself at a fireworks show without a tripod. I will post a photo of the fireworks in a couple of days, but I really had to stay still to get the shots that I wanted. I realize that a tripod would have helped me out quite a bit, but who wants to carry a tripod around at a festival for four hours beforehand? I just tried to use what I know to make the best shot. This was another shot where I knew that I had to be very still to get what I wanted.

As far as processing goes I used another of the new Trey Ratcliff presets here. It is called HDR in Lightroom – Absolutely Fabulous. It is a nice preset that gave me the look I wanted right away. After applying the preset I did bump up the vibrance a little to give the sky a better look. Overall this was a very easy edit.
